FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON AND CRAZY DRIVING

Well we had our first snow storm of the winter season. Which by the way this morning was a only a trace on the ground and they still closed schools for the day or half day. If they did that in Utah we would have a lot of snow days. :) It was so beautiful and Milan and I decided just to watch it from the window. She has a cold so I didn't want her to go out because it was so cold outside. Well tonight was our ward relief society annual Christmas party. My neighbor and I decided to venture out and drive there even though the snow was still coming down hard. I had no idea that the side roads would be nothing but a sheet of ice. After turning off a main road and realizing we had an extremely large hill to drive down I went into panic mode. Thank goodness Kim was with me or might have lost it. She keep telling me to pump the breaks. We made it safely down the hill and drove on. Well we came to another hill going up and after several attempts to go up that hill the poor red car would not make it. Did I tell you the tires were smelling really bad at that point.. We finally got turned around talked to some guy who passed by and realized we would not make it back up that steep hill to get home. After trying to go a different way and getting advice from several other people who were smart to walk around the neighborhood instead of driving and getting some people to try to push the car we were pushed to park the car. Or should I say the ice lead us to the curb. We realized we were not getting home in our car. We found a nice family who let us in their home and we called a cab which by the way could not pick us up for 40 minutes. It was a crazy evening. When the cab guy came and started to drive I had a lot of fears he was not going to get us out of there as well. Needless to say we finally made it out of the neighborhood. And the sad part was when we did get to the main road we realized how close we had come to getting there with the red car. I have learned a lesson why they close schools in VA when there is only a little snow on the ground. The roads are very icy. And I need to buy new tires or a new car!!!! Happy holidays.

What an adventure! You did a great job driving in that mess. I think we learned a valuable lesson. Happy Hanukkah! I still laugh every time I think about that night.

ah yes, be careful. i grew up in the mid-west and it's the ice, particularly the black ice that is dangerous. once my sister hit a patch driving home from early morning seminary and we ended up going up and off the bridge!
