MONGOLIAN NEW YEAR

Last Saturday we celebrated Mongolian New Year.  It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of people come and celebrate with us.  Munich and many others worked so hard to make this a wonderful event.  There is a Mongolian school in Roslyn and a bunch of them came and put on a wonderful program for us. We had yummy Mongolian food, Mongolian dance, Mongolian throat singer and other exciting Mongolian culture.

Cute Mongolian Girls that danced for us.  The night was a huge success.  Mongolian culture is to celebrate for the whole week.  They cook and everyone goes over to each others homes and they eat and eat and eat and eat.  They also have a special way to greet each other.  They also give money to their elders.  So tonight we went to several Mongolian homes and ate and ate and ate.  I even tried my first piece of cow tongue.  It tasted like beef.  It was interesting to look at.  Looked like tongue.  I had to get past the thought of what I was eating and it wasn't to bad.  I then learned that they don't waste anything in their culture.  They cook everything of the cow. They eat brains, eyes etc.  I don't think I could eat the other parts.  Also when we leave the home the families give out gifts to the adults and children.  It was a lot of fun.  I learn something new every year when we celebrate the Mongolian New Year.  I am so glad we live in Arlington.  We are living around so many Mongolian people.  I have enjoyed learning about my husbands culture.  I am happy he gets to embrace his culture even though he lives in America. What a wonderful experience.

I'm sorry I was unable to come, but thank you so much for inviting me--it looks like it was a lot of fun! And I love trying foods from other cultures. I've had tongue, years and years ago. I always am glad to hear when people use all parts of an animal, even though I wouldn't be brave enough to try them, either!

It is so wonderful that your family gets to celebrate both of your cultures!

Where is your cute outfit Amy? Looks like you had a blast! Wish we were closer so munich could cook some good food for us! (not tongue though, just wontons and yummy stuff!)

Tongue... I'm impressed! :) It looks like a really great time. How great to live where you have the opportunity to experience the diversity of Munich's culture. I'm sure that is lacking in other parts of the country. How wonderful for your girls too.
